This week, Pete started batting at things! And by things I mean brightly colored toys that hang from his playmat. He's still a long way from pincering Cheerios or anything like that, but it's the first time he's ever seemed aware that his hands can move things--such power! He smiles all the time, and I think we're getting close to a giggle (lots of coos). He's become more willing to be distracted in his carseat (not his favorite place), so we can go more places. He holds his head up like an athlete (a three-month old athlete). His hands are always in his mouth. At bathtime, I have to unclench them so I can clean between his fingers. He either loves bathtime or is overwhelmed by it--every night he gets very still in the tub, and won't smile or cry, but stares very solemnly at me. He is getting much more aware of Mat and me when we're in the room and follows us with his eyes, which is very gratifying. I no longer feel like just a food source! He changes constantly--every day he seems both like a brand new baby and our same, sweet Pete.

And he weighed 13 lbs and 15 oz on Sunday, June 14! He's growing like a champ. My great-aunt Connie (I guess she would be Pete's great-great-aunt) saw a picture and said he looked like a "Buster," which is what, in her family, they call a big, chunky, healthy boy. Mat did the calculations and if he keeps growing at his current weight (roughly 11 oz per week for the last six weeks) he will weigh 175 lbs by the time he's five. He certainly likes to eat, which is only natural. As Mat put it, it's like the child of two Olympic runners being fast. (As in, we're Olympic eaters.)

We had a diaper situation, and Mom forgot to bring back-up clothes! Pete didn't mind.

Our high-tec baby monitor. I was very proud because I got him to fall asleep in his crib during the daytime, and not the swing. It lasted a whole thirty minutes.
