Pete's Thirteenth Week, June 18 to 24

This week, we celebrated Mom's 34th birthday and Father's Day! Both celebrations were pretty low-key, as is everything since Pete was born. I've cooked a real meal like twice since March 25. Pete is still jabbering (he's getting very good at the "H" sound--we swear he tries to imitate us saying "hello" to him) and batting at things with his hands, though lately he's started to grasp and bring things to his mouth. He's done this before, but this is the first time it doesn't seem like an accident. His hands are always in his mouth--we joke they must taste like bacon. If they're not in his mouth, they're on his chest, and he rubs them together like he's plotting something.
He's getting more and more interactive--will sit propped up on your lap and jabber away at you for as long as you like. He's kind of stopped taking a bottle (he prefers milk straight from the source!) which we have to um, work on before Mama starts work again. It's been said before, about every baby, but it's so true: he changes constantly. It's hard to remember him as an amoeba-like newborn. We wonder all the time what his personality will be: will he be stubborn or easygoing or loud or quiet? Expressive or reserved? More like Mom or Dad? Waiting for his personality to emerge is our chief occupation these days; waiting has never been so exciting.

We tried on hats one day! Pete has a really big head (I don't think you can look at him and tell that, maybe because all babies have big heads so he doesn't look any different from his peers, but he measures in the 95th percentile for head circumference) and so we're not sure how long his hats will fit! Pete didn't mind being a hat model--mainly he tried to eat them.

As soon as we move to Auburn we are starting cloth-diapering!

This is his nap set-up. In the swing, with a neck support so his big ole head doesn't flop down.

For Mama's birthday, we went to Mission Taco and Mama had a margarita! We thought (prayed) Pete might sleep through the entire meal, but his eyes popped open before we'd even gotten our drinks. Luckily, he stayed happy. It was his birthday gift to Mom.

We went to the grocey store after Mission Taco, where Pete was also very good! Sitting in the stroller and amusing himself is a new thing. We're very grateful.

He's almost outgrown his 0-3 month skinny jeans! I just ordered the next size up...

At United Provisions, where we got once a week or so for sushi (it's a two minute walk from our apartment).

On Father's Day

All Mat wanted to do was watch the World Cup, and I decided that it would be a good night to steam clean the couch...

Lulu's here!
