Pete's Fifteenth Week, July 2 to July 8

This week, Pete has spent a lot of time smiling! Even though he's been smiling since he was six weeks old, he has all of a sudden become an expert smiler, and smiles at the slighest provocation. A few nights ago he smiled at me as I reached down to get him from his crib for his 3 AM feeding. It made the experience a little brigher, although, truth be told, I don't mind the nightime feeding--it's a sweet time. But I wish there were only one.
We are in the throes of packing for moving and saying goodbye to friends, so Pete has been accompanying me on lots of lunch dates, and has also been passed back and forth between the two of us as we try to wrangle packing and entertaining Pete. He spends most of his days on his play mat, looking at dangling toys. Also in his bouncy chair, again looking at dangling toys. And then being held. I took him to David and Kim's house, where he met Ayler and Esme, and he was utterly fascinated by them. It's the first time he's seemed interested in other children. He watched them, mouth agog, for an hour. And seemed to like being held by them.
We're trying to establish a bedtime routine, so every night he gets a bath (which has a sedative effect on him--he gets very, very quiet) and then we read a book. He watches the pages like a champ. He's still eating like a champ, too--on Monday, July 6, he weight 15 lbs and 15 oz. Future fiction writer/soccer player in the making.

We take a lot of pictures in restaurants...here we are at Pastaria!

In his mismatched outfit. Lulu was not impressed!

I made us drive half an hour with a screaming Pete to sell a bunch of books for $30. Was it worth it? No!

Aunt Rachel holds Pete for the first time!

This was Pete's very brief nap in his crib. He prefers the swing for naps, thank you very much!

Happy Fourth!

Another fourth of July outfit

At the Cheesecake Factory, in the mall. We went all out for fourth of July.

If he can't get his hands in his mouth, he'll take mine.

Blissed out in his sleepsack after his midnight feeding.

With the aforementioned Ayler and Esme. Pete was so happy!

The first time David has held Pete.

In his St. Louis cherry outfit (don't worry, there's going to be a whole blog post devoted to that!).

Can you spot Pete?

Pete met Val! We're starting him early.
