Pete's Fifty-Eighth Week, April 28 to May 4 (Pete goes to NYC!)

We went to NY for a publishing thing for my book (we actually left on the 27th, not the 28th, as the blog title suggests). It was kind of an almost-disaster from the start. The drive to the Atlanta airport takes one and a half to two hours (one of the perks of living in a small town in Alabama); twenty minutes outside of Auburn we drove over a nail. Luckily, we pulled off next to Kenny's Tires, and they were able to fix the tire in twenty minutes for 15 dollars (I thought he--not Kenny, but Kenny was there--was joking when he told me the total.) Nice, helpful people truly are a perk of living in the Deep South.
Then we were on our way again. Made it in plenty of time. We boarded the plane, and Pete started to lift and lower the window shade. Then the entire shade, and frame, fell off in his hand! He wasn't hurt, but it surprised him, and when we peered into the innards of the plane we could see duct tape. Not confidence-inspiring. We had to huddle in the drink area while maintenance replaced the shade.
And, finally, our AirBnB was a disaster! There was a gas leak, and after I called it in five fire trucks came zooming down our street. Pete was astonished and exhausted. The gas leak turned out to be a defective stove; Mat had turned off the valve before the firemen even came, which turned out to be the exact right thing to do. Go, Mat! The AirBnB was dirty, too, so I spent the time trying not to think about what exactly Pete was picking up from the floor. Finally, the next morning, Mat was pooped on by a bird. THE END!
My work stuff went really well, and Mat and Pete had fun exploring the city. No more AirBnBs for us!

We wanted to go here because of that scene with Parker Posey on Louie. It was delicious!

Pictures out of order. This is from Auburn, when we went to visit Mat's class.

One of our favorite things to do: manipulate the printer.
