Lisbon, Day Two

Our second day in Lisbon, we started off by almost missing our three and a half hour walking tour of the city. But we made it, just in time, startling the two British tour goers who probably wanted nothing less than to go on a tour with a toddler. I mainly followed Pete around various squares and monuments while the rest of the family listened to our guide. Pete loves pigeons, the dirtiest bird on the planet, and makes a cute sound (caw, caw!) when he sees them. We lasted two hours of the tour, and then Lulu, Pete and I went to the hotel to take a nap; we met Auntie X and Poppy and Daddy at a very crowded seafood restaurant later that afternoon.
There's nothing less interesting than looking at other people's vacation photos, especially when those photos involve no people, so fair warning: Pictures of scenery and monuments below. Lots of them.
We keep saying that Lisbon reminds us of different places: Paris, Mexico City, Istanbul. For me, Vienna. It's European with a Latin flair, which is the most descriptive thing I can think of right now. The people are insanely friendly (even when our AirBnb host was dumping us in an apartment with no heat, he was really cheerful about it!) and the city is beautiful: a lot of tiles (Muslim influence) and narrow winding streets and old buildings.

The theater

One of the rare moments Pete consented to be held by someone other than me. Our guide is in the red pants.

The stairs are out of the picture, but they led up to a platform with a stunning view of the city. Pete really, really wanted to climb them.

Liked watching the lobsters

I didn't get any pictures of the food, but you ordered fish by the pound. Or kilo, I guess. We had shrimp with garlic sauce; two types of crab; and giant prawns. All delicious.

Played with his Portuguese pantry items we bought him at a toy store next door. It came with a tiny bottle of tonic but no gin.
