We had an emotional Valentine's Day. Pete was sick with hand, foot, and mouth disease. He had a fever at first, and then the fever went away, and then Pete turned into a monster. If you looked at him the wrong way he threw a fit. The problem was that we didn't know how exactly we were supposed to look at him (or we would have done it). We only knew it was hand, foot, and mouth because we went to the doctor and she looked in his throat, where the blisters had erupted. His hands and feet were spared, but the throat seems like the most painful place to get them. Also, since he wasn't nursing, our fail-proof way to calm him was gone.

Luckily, he started to feel better after a few days and Mat and I breathed a collective sigh of relief. As did Pete's babysitter.

Mat's Valentine's card.

On Thursday I took Pete to breakfast so we could get out of the house. He still wasn't feeling well, so putting on his clothes was a real battle. I prevailed, but only because I have about a hundred pounds on him.

His new game is to put on Mat's hat and walk around blindly. It's pretty funny.

At the Montgomery Zoo again. Here Pete is pointing to jaguars who are growling at each other after they had a romantic encounter.

At Starbucks

Pete was actually really into this book. It's a little old for him (a lot of text) but he paid close attention. Also it distracted him from his fit, which was brought on by the fact that we wouldn't let him climb on the counter.
