Auntie X, as Pete and Hank call her, moved to San Francisco in 2015, right after Pete was born. Since then we've made a yearly trip to see her, except for 2018 because I was enormously pregnant with Hankie! This was the first time we brought both boys. We met Emily on one of those early trips--I think the second one. And now she's our favorite member of the family! Now X and E live in Austin, after a year-long pit stop in Asheville. Covid and wildfires precipitated the move. It makes me sad that we won't have an excuse to visit SF, but it's nice having them closer (we just returned from a visit to Austin).

I think this was our first night at the Air BnB.

Pete was into the hot tub, like any four year old

Some sort of indoor garden/science museum situation. It was very cool!

At the airport en route to SF

At Foreign Cinema! My mom was just reminiscing about that place, and how she'd probably never go again. And X and I were like Donna, you can go again! I thought the three-course meal for a child was funny.

This was the trip on which Auntie X said Mat was like a male seahorse, in that he took care of the kids mostly, and this pic is a good illustration of that. I can't help it that they much prefer him!

At Hog Island Oysters, one of the best places on earth

Imitating me

Pete and Auntie X are a lot alike

He had no idea what he was listening to but he was very into the audio tour

Best we could do

At the Slanted Door, an amazing Vietnamese place

Our very early wake-up call home!

I think this is the only photograph of all of us together. It cracks me up. Xandra and Pete especially.
