My mom and I made a quick trip to Austin with Pete to see Auntie X and Emily! They moved there this summer. Xandra had lived there for a few years before Pete was born (children are a great memory-yardstick) and both she and I lived there for a summer in college. When we deplaned I told Pete that the last time he was in Austin I was pregnant with him. He was...confused by that tidbit.

I'm not sure why these pictures are out of order, but this is our last night--Pete building a rock sculpture at an outdoor restaurant. Almost every restaurant we ate at was outside, which means that Pete is forever disappointed by indoor restaurants back in Alabama.

Our way there. Pete got two flight wings, which he was extremely excited about. Now they're pinned to his backpack, along with an Austin keychain.

Pete spent A LOT of time drawing this trip

At a nature center--Pete found heaven on earth here

He collected a bunch of random nature things--leaves, stones--and bartered them for a tooth in the gift shop. This was the highlight of his trip. Although he said the highlight of his trip was "taking out the trash with Emily" (he found asteroids en route).

At a delicious barbecue/Asian style restaurant. The food in Austin is SO GOOD.

Auntie X and Lulu went to Anthropologie and Pete was very taken by the displays--he requested this pic.

Pete ate well on this trip!

Back at home, Hank drank sugar water with Dada and Mat indulged his inner redneck with Mountain Dew.

And he got a Transformer

He was pretty stand-offish with me when I got home. That was a rough week--Mat and I were both pretty sick and the boys were absolutely fine and my parents were gone. It passed by in a blur.
